From manufacturing, through distribution all the way to store displays and check out

Dusseldorf, Germany, December 2008 – TOSHIBA TEC Europe will unveil a combination of advanced front-end POS systems and back-end retail technology hardware next February at EuroCIS 2009 to help retailers make it through the broad economic slowdown.

TOSHIBA TEC’s Retail and Auto ID offerings enable smart retailers to continually improve and expand all aspects of their core business practice at all times.

Partnerships with Motorola, Pricer

The company also announced their pan-European partnership with Motorola in which both companies will work together to enable businesses to leverage the value of their combined retail offering.

TOSHIBA TEC partner for Electronic Shelf Labels (ESL), Pricer CEO Charles Jackson said on the opportunities for smart retail technologies: “Now comes the urgency issue for retailers. Commoditization introduces fierce price and service competition. P&L pressures will continue to drive the need to increase productivity and efficiency. Customer satisfaction will increasingly become important from lower queue time to effective signage. These different forces are increasingly converging and will drive automation and ESL growth.”

RFID on the shelves

With real-life RFID-based retail technology in operations at METRO Group in Germany as well as at Europe’s first large chain of bookstores that switched from barcode to RFID, TOSHIBA TEC will showcase these successful technologies at EuroCIS 2009.

TOSHIBA TEC is continuously communicating with Europe’s retail and hospitality players to incorporate their requirements into a new generation of practical POS solutions – thus exercising a strong leadership in timely technology innovation.

WILLPOS A20

Building on the enormous market success of the ST-A10 TouchPOS, the new terminal has been designed with a range of new and improved features that squarely address key issues, such as versatility, robustness, high volume processing, environmental responsibility and elegance.

“The reality is that many retailers today require performance, reliability, serviceability and design all at an affordable price point,” Holger Seiler stated. “The WILLPOS A-20 delivers on these requirements and even helps the environment by reducing power consumption through efficient use of the Intel Celeron M processor.”

Pocket-size digiPOP 3 in-store advertising display

Introducing the pocket-size digiPOP 3, TOSHIBA TEC will showcase their new digital format screen for delivering live content and dynamic viewing in the store.

Digital media is an increasingly significant medium for in-store retail advertising. A digital advertising display produces a visual appeal and has the target ability of traditional in-store paper-based advertising.

Toshiba’s digital media can be discovered in ever-growing locations. These new innovations in outdoor as well as indoor advertising can be seen on large digital video boards found at stadiums, digital billboards, and recreational parks, to digital screens in elevators, digital restroom displays in airports, in the back of taxicabs, digital media is an increasingly sought after marketing tool.

The 7-inch 500 grammes TOSHIBA TEC digiPOP 3 digital advertising platform replaces TVs, VCRs and DVD players to fit narrow retail spaces and uses popular JPEG, MPEG 1,2 and 4 formats as well as MP3 audio formats.

Self Check Out Edition 2009

Specifically designed for the European retail market, the TOSHIBA TEC Self Check-Out system today is a solid stand-alone POS solution that will attract all age groups thanks to its finely tuned ergonomic design.

The 2009 edition of this outstanding engineering solution has an unrivalled built-in quality that will stand the test of time as it processes shop visitors fast, efficiently and using the smart user interface to connect with customers in a friendly way.

Self-Scanning

In cooperation with Motorola, TOSHIBA TEC will unveil a Portable Self-Scanning solution at EuroCIS 2009, operating under Microsoft .NET with TOSHIBA TEC’s storeMate retail software suite on board.

Creating differentiation for today’s retailers is essential in the current economic climate. The new TOSHIBA TEC/Motorola consumer shopping assistant sets out to achieve a new level of service excellence, eliminate long lines at the checkout counter and long waits for price and inventory checks.

“Give busy customers what they want is our main objective: that includes speeding up the check-out process, help customers to locate items, check pricing, find complementary products, and take advantage of personalized promotions and recommendations,” Holger Seiler, Retail Director, TOSHIBA TEC Germany said.

TOSHIBA TEC’s storeMate software automation application suite is a multilingual, modular, hardware independent solution based on Microsoft .NET. “TOSHIBA TEC’s storeMate POS is a state-of-the-art, robust and mature solution,” according to Martin van Vugt, Capgemini, Delivery Executive Retail.

Incorporated into the TOSHIBA TEC solution is Motorola’s MC17 mobile computer, designed to withstand daily use, including accidental drops and spills.

B-EP2DL and B-EP4DL portable label printers

With the launch of the 2” B-EP2DL and the 4” B-EP4DL portable label printers, retailers will be able to extend its support of advanced mobile applications in retail, hospitality and warehousing environments.

The new B-EP2DL and B-EP4DL meet all the requirements for integration with legacy systems, protecting customer investments. The ever-increasing need for both mobility and efficiency in the workplace requires a smart networking capability, both wired and wireless, which is of course, included in the new TOSHIBA TEC designs.

Built on the success of the outstanding B-SP2D printer series, the B-EP2DL and the B-EP4DL are portable thermal printers with a contemporary and rugged design to perfectly meet the needs of today’s demanding mobile stock control applications.

Entry-level desktop label printer with the famous name

TOSHIBA TEC today added the new B-EV4 entry-level desktop label printer to its range of desktop thermal printers with two new models expanding printing solutions for retail point of sale, shelf labelling, product marking, healthcare, inventory management and shipping and receiving.

Engineered to provide affordable printing with high quality performance, and with the latest technology under the bonnet, the extra small footprint of the B-EV4 series is designed to help bring your retail operations to the next level.

B-SX600 Industrial Printer

The TOSHIBA TEC B-SX600 600 dpi is a 4-inch thermal transfer label printer for high-performance printing and designed for a variety of specialized printing applications.

The B-SX600 600 dpi thermal label printer is purpose-built for the manufacturing of specialty goods such as jewellery, mobile phones, customized wine bottles and other high-value objects that require end-to-end tracking with small, yet highly accurate barcode labels.

Load, click and print. That is the purpose of the B-SX600 600 dpi industrial printer. The B-SX600 operability is world-class with intuitive user menus, easy supply loading and large LCD panel displays, tool-less maintenance and extremely easy set up.

The B-SX600 is designed to be compliant with extremely strict industrial safety records: for example an interlock switch stops all printing activity when the cover is opened; users cannot touch moving parts such as the platen roller or the cutter unit.
